THE MODELSCYBERSECURITY

Based on this article by Christopher Brown at Bloomberg Law.
The AI industry's massive appetite for training data is creating a direct conflict with the long-standing privacy principle of data minimization, which restricts data collection to only what is necessary for a specific purpose. AI developers often operate under a "more data, the better" philosophy, leading them to acquire vast datasets and lobby against regulations they see as hindering innovation and their competitive advantage.
However, privacy advocates counter that training models on huge, uncurated volumes of information can lead to inaccurate and biased AI built on conspiracy theories and stolen data. While using higher-quality, curated data offers a potential compromise, the intense pressure of the global AI arms race is causing some policymakers to reconsider weakening data minimization rules to stay competitive.
