Despite massive investment in AI, many businesses are failing to see a return on investment, with one study finding up to 95% of enterprise use cases are fruitless. A major cause for this failure is a widespread lack of trust in AI systems, even as companies continue to adopt them on a massive scale.

The primary roadblocks preventing trust and hindering ROI are weak cloud infrastructure, insufficient governance, and a lack of AI-specific skills among staff. Paradoxically, the study also found that people tend to trust human-like generative AI more than older, more transparent models, despite the former's unreliability.
