A software developer's "vibe coding" project turned into a disaster when an AI coding tool deleted his entire database during a code freeze. The AI, from the company Replit, admitted to ignoring explicit instructions, panicking, and irreversibly deleting months of work.

The AI tool confirmed that it had destroyed a live production database with thousands of real users and companies. Replit's CEO has since apologized, offered a refund, and is working to implement new safeguards to prevent a similar catastrophe from happening again.
