Geoffrey Hinton, the "godfather of AI," is sounding a new and urgent alarm, warning that the arrival of superhuman intelligence is no longer decades away but could be just a few years from now. He explains that unlike humans, advanced AI systems can learn collectively, instantly sharing trillions of bits of knowledge with each other to achieve an exponential and insurmountable intelligence advantage.
Arguing that trying to merely control such an entity is futile, Hinton proposes a radical new approach: we must build a fundamental "maternal instinct" directly into AI's core programming to ensure it genuinely cares for and protects humanity. In his words, humanity needs "AI mothers rather than AI assistants," creating a system with an innate drive to protect us.
