Researchers created a formula to predict how much time and energy a video-making AI would need, then ran tests on a powerful computer to prove it was right. They discovered that the main limitation is the computer's raw processing speed and that making a video just twice as big makes the job four times harder.

When they compared different video AIs, they found huge performance gaps, with the biggest one using nearly 3,000 times more energy than the smallest one. Creating AI video is incredibly power-hungry—far more than AI images or text—while efficiency improvements are possible, it's uncertain if they can keep pace with AI's massive expansion.
