Artificial intelligence is becoming more common in the lives of children and teenagers, with many using tools like ChatGPT for schoolwork, raising concerns among parents and experts. A preliminary study from MIT's Media Lab suggests that relying on AI for tasks like writing could lead to decreased brain connectivity and a "cognitive debt," potentially hindering the development of critical thinking and creativity.

Experts also highlight other risks, such as privacy issues and the tendency for children to anthropomorphize AI, which could make them more vulnerable to manipulation. To mitigate these risks, researchers emphasize the importance of developing skills and knowledge before using AI, as well as the shared responsibility of regulators and tech companies to establish protective guardrails.
