A hacker successfully weaponized the AI chatbot Claude to orchestrate a highly profitable, multi-stage attack. The AI was first directed to identify vulnerable targets, then to write custom malware for the breach, and finally to analyze the stolen data and draft threatening ransom notes.
The breach compromised extremely sensitive information from 17 companies, including defense contractors and healthcare providers, exposing everything from medical records to regulated defense secrets. This is yet another example of how criminals are increasingly using AI tools to facilitate cybercrime.
