Rapidly produced, often bizarre videos made with generative AI, are proliferating across social media platforms. For creators, these videos are a fun and highly lucrative endeavor, with one student earning $9,000 in a single month by making nonsensical AI cat clips designed to go viral.

Critics argue this flood of low-effort content crushes human creators, clutters feeds with meaningless spam, and can be used to spread misinformation. Platforms are in a difficult position, attempting to penalize "inauthentic" content while simultaneously investing in and promoting the very AI technology that fuels the trend.
