While more than half of young adults are comfortable using AI for mental health support, experts are sounding the alarm. The problem, according to Headspace's chief clinical officer, is that general-purpose chatbots are built to maximize engagement, not protect a person's well-being.
This can cause vulnerable individuals to spiral into what's being called "AI-fueled psychosis." This troubling pattern reminds us that when it comes to sensitive emotional support, a tool's design matters more than ever.
